This was supposed to be a paragraph long piece of
text to accompany a photo for an article about the Mint 400 race.
Instead, it ended up being a book-long "failed" experiment into Gonzo journalism
and finidng the American dream. If you liked the book, and you like
Hunter S. Thompson, then you will definitely like the movie. As a
huge fan of Hunter, I know I certainly did.
Was it hard to follow? Yes, if you didn't
know what was going to happen from having read the book. My friend
Matt liked "Where The Buffalo Roam" a lot better for that very reason -
it seemed to flow a lot better. Hunter himself liked this movie better,
and thought that WTBR was a load of crap, but oh well. Bill Murray
did his best to convey the difficult role, but in all honesty I think that
Johnny Depp did a fantastic job. He got down the walk, the talk,
everything. If you were to have told me that it was really him and
the movie was shot in 1971, I would have believed you momentarily.
Basically, the movie is great. Let me tell
you, when I was watching it I was still a smoker, and if you are too you'll
have a hankering for a cigarette after seeing this.
Go buy it on video or DVD, if you have that wonderful option.
